Setiap kali mendiskusikan penyebab perubahan iklim, bahan bakar fosil menempati urutan teratas.

Dr Hilary A. Tindle, asisten profesor di University of Pittsburgh,

Animal Protein as a Carcinogen

BY: T. COLIN CAMPBELL, PHD

Answer to a Reader’s Question:

Although there are many arguments favoring the nutritional imbalance explanation of cancer, one of the more striking for me was the experimental animal studies discussed in Chapter 3 in my book, The China Study.  Namely, aflatoxin is a very potent carcinogen for the rat. However, after the Indian researchers showed that decreasing protein (casein) intake from the usual level of consumption of 20% to 5% completely prevented this very powerful carcinogen to cause cancer, we then began our work (references in our book). We explored that finding in great depth and eventually confirmed their initial observation. That is, simple adjustment of dietary protein (casein) within very normal ranges of protein intake controlled cancer growth and it worked not by one mechanism but by a large array of mechanisms. In other words, we proved this association beyond any doubt.

Further, over the years, this research required a lot of funding and our applications for funding were reviewed by other researchers highly experienced in this field. Every time we got high marks for the quality of the research. Then, when we submitted the results for publication, they were again reviewed by peers and these papers were published in the very best cancer research journals. Among the people who know the most about cancer, our work was entirely convincing. Baca lebih lanjut

Reversing Heart Disease with Diet

BY: T. COLIN CAMPBELL, PHD

I would like to introduce you to my friend Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., a man you will be hearing a lot more about in coming years. Having won a gold medal (Yale Crew team) in the 1956 Olympics, Dr. Esselstyn quickly advanced to a distinguished career in surgery at the renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In 1985, when drugs were considered the treatment of choice for heart patients (as they mostly still are), Dr. Esselstyn embarked on a revolutionary course of action. The results of his investigation are being made available here for the first time to the larger public, thanks to Dr. Esselstyn’s gracious sharing of his pre-publication research findings.

His story is rather like that of Professor Dean Ornish, who is on our Advisory Board, and who convincingly showed that heart disease could be reversed in seriously ill heart patients when they used a low-fat diet, exercised, and managed their stress. Dr. Esselstyn’s findings contribute some important new information to the Ornish study. Baca lebih lanjut

Degenerasi Makula Terkait Usia : Gambaran Umum dan Faktor Risiko

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD): Overview and Risk Factors

BY: PHYSICIANS COMMITTEE FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE

Age-related macular degeneration is a degenerative disease of the macula, the central part of the retina. It results in loss of central vision, which is necessary for most daily activities, and can cause legal blindness. This disease is the most common cause of poor vision among elderly persons

There are two forms of macular degeneration: The “dry” form is marked by changes in the macula without bleeding or leakage of fluid. The “wet” form includes leakage and/or bleeding from new blood vessel growth beneath the retina.

Macular degeneration is thought to be due to destruction of the fatty acids in the rods and cones of the eyes. Thus, antioxidant nutrients have long been thought to be protective (see Nutritional Considerations). Baca lebih lanjut

Katarak: Gambaran Umum dan Faktor Risiko

Cataracts: Overview and Risk Factors

BY: PHYSICIANS COMMITTEE FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE

Cataracts are extremely common. They affect an estimated 15 million people and are responsible for nearly half of all cases of blindness worldwide.

A cataract occurs when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy or opaque. This happens gradually, as proteins in the lens become oxidized. Doctors do not know exactly why this occurs, but they believe that a combination of environmental factors (such as toxins and sunlight exposure) and genetic factors are involved.

Cataracts can occur in specific areas or throughout the lens. The process usually occurs very slowly over the course of years or decades, and it usually affects both eyes.

Cataracts are not painful. The most common symptoms are loss of vision, blurred vision, or double vision. In general, long–distance vision is lost before near vision. Some patients say that they see a halo effect around lights. Others note excessive glare during night driving and in bright light, especially sunlight. Baca lebih lanjut
