Mengganti lemak jenuh dengan makanan kaya karbohidrat yang sehat dan lemak tidak  jenuh adalah terbaik untuk mengurangi risiko penyakit jantung, menurut sebuah penelitian yang diterbitkan dalam Journal of American College of Cardiology. Peneliti mengikuti lebih dari 127.000 individu sebagai bagian dari Nurses Health Study dan Health Professionals FollowUp Study dan menemukan bahwa peserta yang mengganti 5 persen kalori dari lemak jenuh dengan kalori yang sama dari lemak tidak jenuh ganda, lemak tak jenuh tunggal, atau palawija, biji-bijian dari karbohidrat  mengurangi risiko untuk  berkembang menjadi penyakit jantung sebesar masing 25, 15, dan 9 persen.

Removing Saturated Fats Reduces Risk of Heart Disease

Replacing saturated fats with healthful carbohydrate-rich foods and unsaturated fats is best for reducing risk for heart disease, according to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Researchers followed more than 127,000 individuals as part of the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study and found that participants who replaced 5 percent of calories from saturated fat with equal calories from polyunsaturated fats, monounsaturated fats, or whole-grain carbohydrates reduced their risk for developing heart disease by 25, 15, and 9 percent, respectively.
